The subtitles for the three movements of this Sonatina - I. Magic, II. Lost and III. Pride — are associations of my own personal interaction with the music I created. I feel The Magic while playing the first movement. The second movement is an expression of a personal loss of my ability to play for almost ten years. The clear flamenco influence in the last movement is reminiscent of flamenquistas’ pride in their own tradition..
Lior Yekutieli was born in Israel on 1964. He started playing classical guitar when he was 9 years old. Three years later, Lior already gave live recitals, played as a soloist with the Israeli Chamber Orchestra and in varied TV and radio recorded concerts. At the same period, Lior has won the American-Israel scholarship, with merits, on each year between 1975 and 1983. At the age of twenty, Lior became interested in Jazz music and developed his improvising and composing skills. In 1989, he traveled to the United States where he graduated the Musicians Institute of Los Angeles and recorded with leading musicians, among them the base player Jeff Berlin. Two years later he was invited to give some Jazz concerts in Europe and stayed there for three years, during which he has performed his own music with Yiotis Kiourtsoglou and Marc Halbheer in his own band called Exit. In 1992 Lior came back to Israel, dedicating most of his time for recording two CDs of his original compositions with Exit. The same compositions were the basis of several tours of the band in Israel and Europe. In 2000, Lior’s composition for classical guitar, Moods, which includes four interrelated pieces, was published by Editions Orphée (PWYS-53) This composition reflects and expresses Lior’s original style as well as his unique concept of the classical guitar, which is based on both his classical background and his Jazz style. In 2011 Lior played his music at the Felicja Blumenthal Festival, and performed as a soloist with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. During the last two years he has focused on doing solo recordings, gave a Master class at the Jerusalem Academy of Music, and continued live appearances with his Trio.
