This edition is based on a manuscript which I bought in 1978 from the London antiquarian dealer H. Baron. The manuscript consists of four part booklets, each for the flute, violin, guitar and Basso, presumably intended to be played by a violoncello. The treble instruments booklets were executed by a different scribe than those for the guitar and bass. When I first laid eyes on this manuscript, I was very much impressed with the refreshing character of the music, with its fascinating melodiousness and masterful harmony, even though I was not familiar with the name of the composer. Remarkably, even though the guitar part is quite engaged in providing the typical chordal accompaniment in arpeggios and blocked chords, it is often given a chance to shine forth in brilliant and quite virtuosic solo passages. As I was at that time in the process of establishing the initial foundation for Editions Orphée as a music publisher, I set to prepare an edition of this Quartetto and actually announced the forthcoming edition of it in my very first promotional mailer in late 1980. Once I began my publishing activities, however, I became distracted by other projects which demanded my full attention, and the Giorgeri Quartetto III was not published. It is now time to do it.
