de Lhoyer — Three Sonatas Op. 18 for guitar and violin
“This is a scholarly presentation of eight Chopin Mazurkas transcribed by Jan Bobrowicz, a contemporary and countryman of Chopin. Editing for this edition is by Dutch guitarist Jan de Kloe, who provides detailed critical notes on his work. An interesting introduction is provided by Matanya Ophee. Most of these pieces are short and fall somewhere in the high intermediate level of difficulty. Perhaps the most difficult thing would be in getting some of them up to the very fast metronome spee…
“ . . . Op. 6 in particular makes a valuable addition to the repertoire . . . I see no reason why these variations should not become a standard . . . The print is very clear and the production is excellent. The introductory notes explain sources, fingering, biography and much more. . . . [this music] would give a player (and audience) several minutes of attractive material . . . Recommended.” Neil Smith Classical Guitar.
Tremolo Study for solo guitar. Edmund Jurkowski was the founder of the Silesian Autumn Guitar Festival in Tychy, Poland.
The title key word, “academic” should not suggest conventionality or academicism in the negative sense. On the contrary, in many respects it is marked by highly innovative use of almost all known guitar techniques.
The composer says:
Persons who studied the first volume of my songs “For Thy Delight” advised me of sobriety and sadness. Therefore, for this volume, I have chosen to compose music for seven limericks which are gay and bawdy. To make this even more jocular I have used only percussion for the accompaniment. The word “perhaps” is addressed to the performers which allows their judgment to be used to interpret the songs in this volume.

All my life with the exception of the four years when I lived in Brazil, I had dogs as my companions. I loved dogs and they loved me. I believe it was so beautifully said in Prayers From The Ark And The Creatures Choir by Carmen Bernos de Gasztold:
“Il n'y a que Vous et moi pour comprendre ce que c’est que la fidélité!”

Freud & The High “C”, is a spoof on Freud who, with few exceptions such as Mozart, disliked music. The composition touches on the personalities of the composers who ranged from murderers and self-destroyers to those who had some strange personal habits. This strategy was utilized to allow my heroine to have “musical” nightmares. The idea of the High “C” came from the play with orchestra “Every good boy deserves a favor” by Tom Stoppard. In t…

The composer says:
As a pianist, I was particularly “addicted” to the Mazurkas of Chopin. Here, in these priceless gems of piano music, Chopin proved himself to be “a 20th Century composer who visited the 19th Century” (if I correctly remember this description of him). Modern harmonies infrequently encountered in other compositions of Chopin’s are strikingly employed in the Mazurkas particularly those composed during his last period of creativity. Not many modern …
Stanislaw Szczepanowski is reputed to have published a considerable number of compositions for the guitar with the English publisher Robert Cocks. They are only known by literary reference. The only composition found so far, dedicated to Giulio Regondi, is the present Introduction et Variations Brillantes Sur un Air National, the air being the Polish National Anthem. The second piece in this volume, titled Une Larme, (A Tear), was published in the Illustrirte Zeitung in 1852, as a transcription …
